Sanibel Sea School will screen an award-winning documentary, DamNation, Friday, Jan. 18. The film brings together perspectives from across the country to reevaluate whether dams were always a positive form of development. It suggests that perhaps there are more cost-effective options that meet our needs for power, shipping, and irrigation. Dam alternatives can also help to restore rivers, preserve tribal customs, recover fish stocks, revitalize waterfronts, improve recreational opportunities and render watersheds more resilient to climate change. Community members are invited to attend this donation-based learning opportunity from 5 to 7 p.m. at the organization’s Flagship Campus, 455 Periwinkle Way. Walk-ins are welcome. Sanibel Sea School is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to improve the ocean’s future, one person at a time. Learn more at
